Welcome to Rewrite Crohn’s
Hi! I’m Jake, and I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in my small intestine in 2023. I am a writer and librarian with an MFA in creative writing, so naturally, after my diagnosis I turned to books to learn more about my “new normal” life and my Crohn’s disease symptoms. I found a ton of great nonfiction books: books to tell you more about the disease, books with diets to try, memoirs about other fellow IBDers (I don’t think that’s a real term, so I’m coining it now.) But, when I looked for fiction featuring IBD in some way, I came up short. I searched for every fiction book I could find with a character who has Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative Colitis and decided to put that list online so others might have a chance to see themselves represented in fiction too. We can rewrite how people with IBD see themselves, and rewrite how others view this disease. The more IBD is featured in fiction the more normal it will be for everyone.
Check out the list of novels with characters who have IBD here!

The problem is figuring out which foods…
